Terms governing video editors who provide services through ReelMatic

These terms apply to professional video editors who provide editing services through the ReelMatic platform.
1. Editor Relationship
1.1 Independent Contractor Status
You are an independent contractor, not an employee of ReelMatic:
- You control how and when you work
- No benefits, insurance, or employee rights
- Responsible for your own taxes
- Can decline any job
1.2 Platform Role
ReelMatic acts as a marketplace platform:
- We connect you with clients
- We facilitate payment through credit escrow
- We provide platform tools and support
- We do NOT direct your work or set specific hours
2. Editor Application and Approval
2.1 Application Requirements
To apply as an editor, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Have professional video editing experience
- Provide portfolio samples (3-5 projects)
- Pass skills assessment
- Provide valid identification
- Agree to background check (if applicable)
2.2 Approval Process
Your application will be reviewed within 5-7 business days:
- Portfolio quality review
- Skills verification
- Identity verification
- Compliance checks
2.3 Rejection and Reapplication
If rejected:
- We'll provide a reason
- You can reapply after 90 days
- Improve your portfolio and skills in the meantime
3. Editor Tiers and Rates
3.1 Tier System
Editors are assigned to one of three tiers:

3.2 Rate Calculation
Your earnings are based on:
- Edited video duration: Not source footage duration
- Rate per minute: Multiplied by final video length
- Platform fee: ReelMatic takes 20% (you keep 80%)
Example: 5-minute video at Standard tier
Client pays: 5 × 600 = 3000 credits ($30)
You earn: $30 × 0.8 = $24
ReelMatic fee: $6
3.3 Tier Promotion
Editors can be promoted based on:
- Average rating (must maintain 4.5+ stars)
- Completed jobs (minimum 20 for Express)
- On-time delivery rate (95%+)
- Client satisfaction scores
4. Job Workflow
4.1 Job Acceptance
When a client submits a job:
- You have 24 hours to accept or decline
- Review the brief, assets, and estimated duration
- Accepting commits you to the turnaround time
4.2 Communication
All communication must occur through the platform:
- Use in-app messaging only
- Do NOT share personal contact information
- Keep all discussions professional
4.3 Delivery
When delivering work:
- Upload final video to the platform
- Include delivery notes explaining changes made
- Ensure video meets technical requirements (format, resolution)
- Meet the agreed turnaround deadline
4.4 Revisions
Revision policy varies by tier:
- Express: Up to 2 revisions included
- Standard: Unlimited revisions (within reason)
- Retainer: Per contract terms
Major scope changes may require additional payment negotiation with the client.
4.5 Approval and Payment
After delivery:
- Client has 48 hours to review and approve
- If no response, work is auto-approved
- Credits released from escrow to your earnings
- You can withdraw earnings anytime
5. Quality Standards
5.1 Technical Requirements
All deliverables must meet:
- Resolution: Minimum 1080p (HD), 4K if specified
- Format: MP4 (H.264) or MOV (as requested)
- Frame Rate: Match source or as specified
- Audio: Clean, normalized, no clipping
- Color: Professionally graded, consistent
5.2 Prohibited Content
Do NOT deliver content that:
- Contains copyrighted material without proper license
- Violates intellectual property rights
- Includes malware or corrupted files
- Contains pornographic or illegal content
5.3 Originality
All work must be original:
- No plagiarism of other editors' work
- Use only licensed music, fonts, and assets
- Disclose use of stock footage or templates
6. Payment and Withdrawals
6.1 Earning Credits
Credits are added to your balance after client approval:
- Credits are held in escrow until approval
- Auto-approval after 48 hours if no client response
- Minimum withdrawal: 10,000 credits ($100)
6.2 Withdrawal Methods
You can withdraw earnings via:
- Bank Transfer (ACH/SEPA): No fee, 3-5 business days
- PayPal: 2% fee, 1-2 business days
- Wise (TransferWise): Low fee, 1-3 business days
6.3 Payment Schedule
Withdrawals processed:
- On-demand (anytime you reach minimum)
- Or automatic monthly if balance ≥ 10,000 credits
6.4 Taxes
You are responsible for:
- Reporting income to tax authorities
- Paying income tax, self-employment tax
- Providing tax forms (W-9 for US, equivalent for other countries)
- We provide 1099 forms for US editors earning $600+/year
7. Intellectual Property
7.1 Work-for-Hire
All edited videos are work-for-hire:
- Client owns all rights to the final deliverable
- You transfer copyright upon payment
- Client can use, modify, or commercialize freely
7.2 Portfolio Use
You may use completed work in your portfolio:
- With client's permission (requested via platform)
- Credit client if they request
- Remove from portfolio if client requests
7.3 Source Files
Clients own source files they provide:
- Do not use for other projects
- Delete after job completion (30 days)
- Do not share with third parties
8. Ratings and Reviews
8.1 Rating System
Clients rate editors on a 5-star scale:
- Quality of work
- Communication
- Timeliness
- Professionalism
8.2 Performance Requirements
Maintain minimum standards:
- Average rating: 4.0+ stars
- On-time delivery: 90%+
- Response time: <24 hours
8.3 Account Suspension
Accounts may be suspended for:
- Rating below 3.5 for 3+ consecutive jobs
- Multiple late deliveries (3+ in a row)
- Client complaints about quality or professionalism
- Violations of these Terms
9. Prohibited Activities
Editors must NOT:
- Solicit clients off-platform to avoid fees
- Share contact information with clients
- Create multiple accounts
- Manipulate ratings or reviews
- Outsource work to third parties without disclosure
- Use AI-generated content without disclosure
- Plagiarize or steal other editors' work
Violation consequences: Immediate account termination, forfeiture of unpaid earnings, potential legal action.
10. Termination
10.1 Voluntary Termination
You may deactivate your editor profile anytime:
- Complete all pending jobs first
- Withdraw all earnings
- Profile will be hidden from clients
- Can reactivate later
10.2 Involuntary Termination
We may terminate your account for:
- Violation of these Terms
- Poor performance ratings
- Fraudulent activity
- Client complaints
10.3 Effect of Termination
Upon termination:
- You cannot accept new jobs
- Must complete pending jobs or forfeit payment
- Can withdraw remaining earnings (if in good standing)
- Permanent ban prevents reapplication
